Engadin Bike Giro will no longer take place in 2024
After eight successful editions of the Engadin Bike Giro mountain bike stage race, the event will no longer be continued in 2024. This was decided after intensive meetings between the organizer Sauser Event GmbH and the three organizing communities of Celerina, St. Moritz and Silvaplana. The decision is based on the current general conditions and the prospects for the future.
“Unfortunately, the mountain bike marathon scene is fundamentally weakening and the number of participants has reached a level that is too low to continue the Engadin Bike Giro,” reports organizer Rik Sauser from the organizing agency Sauser Event GmbH in Rickenbach. After a great start in 2016 and positive years thereafter, the race saw a slight decline in the number of participants in 2019. During the Corona years of 2020 and 2021, the race experienced an interim high when the number of starters rose to almost 500 due to the lack of other mountain bike events that were canceled due to Corona. In the last two years, disillusionment returned.
The financial implementation of the Engadin Bike Giro is currently no longer feasible and the prospects for the entire mountain bike marathon scene are challenging and not very optimistic. Nevertheless, the organizer remains in close contact with the hosts and partners in the Engadin. Over the next few months, a new concept and format for a possible revival in a new form in 2025 will be discussed and developed.
The organizer Sauser Event GmbH would like to thank all participants, partners, sponsors and helpers who accompanied and supported the Engadin Bike Giro over eight years.
